I bought this to replace a Canon DSLR, bought for my daughter. Although she loved the camera lugging it around with 4 lenses, filters and wide angle attachments became a bit of a bore. Often by the time the camera was ready the subject had disappeared or the light had changed. This camera does away with all the lenses and though not the same picture quality (I am being picky) the sheer flexibility and ease of use make up for it, always ready with a lens which manages to do lots of jobs with relative ease and accuracy. Pictures are clear and sharp, colour is really good and has loads of features you previously only got in a DSLR. You will need a tripod for long zoom pictures Selectable focus works well. It struggles to focus at extreme zoom at anything closer than about 4-5m, just a niggle because its flexibility is phenomenal Lightweight but seems sturdy. Intuitive with simple controls The selectable digital viewfinder works really well Great video but lens motor sound is picked up strongly Things I don't particularly like. The focus is automatic, and the zoom is motorised, no manual options, so the zoom seems slow compared to a manual lens. The camera is power hungry especially if you use the zoom a lot, you really need two or more batteries. I did a lot of research before buying this camera, I have not been disappointed and at the price it was definitely a 'no brainer'.Read full review
although this model is now discontinued the current model is not a huge improvement in most respects other than being splash-proof and having wi-fi. If you can do without then at a substantially discounted price this is excellent value. With a small "point and shoot" size sensor this is no competition to a DSLR when light levels are low but with reasonable light it gives very good results indeed. The big lens is very good even at wide angle and telephoto making this an excellent holiday camera or where you don't want to drag a DSLR and exra lenses The full HD video is a very good "extra" too
got it to save weight when traveling. slr cameras can be a bit weighty with large lens.finepix has built in zoom at a lighter weight
this camera was very good value once you got to know its capability. it it good for its size and the speed of the zoom. The control is use full for all variety of photos.
i upgraded to the s1000 camera and found a sharper clearer brighter picture than my s4000. the zoom is something i am just getting used to but what a differance between the camera, sharp and clear i would recomend byuing this camera to anyone that wants a one lense camera for the job glad i bought it.
