This coffee pot is fantastic. For anyone who enjoys fresh ground and brewed coffee, it can't be beat. I use it every day and I enjoy setting it up the night before so I can get up to the smell of fresh coffee. This is the third one I've had. Even with daily use you should get 6 to 8 good years out of one. I'm so glad they are still making it because I wouldn't want to buy any other kind. They have also come down in price unlike most commodities. The first one I bought about 25 years ago was $129.00. If I had too I'd gladly pay that today to get this quality product.

Holds enough water to make 12 measured cups of coffee. Basket holds enough ground coffee to make 4 measured cups of coffee. Forget using the grinder feature. Coffee gets clogged and its a pain to clean. Also the grinder has a clear cap that accumulates moisture, every time the coffee maker is used. Regardless of whether the grinder feature was used. Has to be removed and wiped clean every time. Then re inserted and snapped into place. Every time. Regret this purchase.

We previously owned a Cuisinart coffee maker that we were happy with. The coffee maker that we had had a hopper on top of the maker that you just kept full of beans and according to how many cups you had the switch set to, would automatically grind (using a "burr-grind" system) the right amount of bean. You could also set it for 3 different strengths of brew, mild, medium, and strong. Loved it. It finally made its last cup so we thought we would look for another like it. We found this one thinking it would be about the same. We like this coffee maker but it's just not the same. There is no hopper on top. According to how many cups you want to make, you put in that many scoops of beans in the grind cup each time. The grind system on this maker, is basically a blade that spins to chops the bean and throws it out a shoot that feeds into the reusable filter basket. The grind cup/housing needs to be cleaned every time you make a new pot of coffee, where our original rarely needed cleaning. Aside from that, we do like the coffee maker overall and it does make good coffee. We obviously didn't realize we were getting this style of maker. If we would have done our research a little more, we probably would have tried finding the style we originally had, with the bean hopper on top that you just keep full and it automatically grind the right amount for how many cups you want.Read full review
What I LOVE about my coffeemaker--and why I shop at ebay--is the price. What attracted me to this coffeemaker is its ability to provide fresh ground coffee that I wake up to in the morning--more on that later. Likes: built in grinder--but you can pour already ground coffee straight into the filter if you need to; timer; permanent gold filter (no paper ones to buy); stylish looks; feels well made; ability to keep the coffee warm for varying amounts of time, up to 4 hours; makes coffee rather quickly--haven't timed it, but I would say a full pot in under 10 minutes, I usually make 7-8 cups, and it seems like under 5 minutes; the 1-4 cup feature that heats up the water extra to make sure it is hot enough from the beginning to extract flavor from the grounds, The way the carafe feels when you hold it-smooth, sturdy handle; the large capacity--12 cups. Downers: it drips every time you pour coffee. every time. I read a review about that on another popular online site, and I thought the guy was whiny. But I kid you not, something about the design makes it drip every. single. time. For some reason--and I am picky--this doesn't bother me like I thought it would. Maybe it was getting such a great deal on ebay that mitigated it. But if you were entertaining, you'd want a little cloth held on the front to catch the drippings--especially if over a nice tablecloth. Additionally, it is a little more complex to clean than a "regular" machine, because you are cleaning a grinder (two removable parts, plus you need to wipe the "well" that the grinder parts fit down into, because of residual condensation making coffee is always present, and that is mixed with some coffee dust/grime), and then the coffee basket is made of 3 parts--the basket itself, the gold filter, and a cover that helps funner the grounds into the filter from the grinder. If you don't clean that out right away, it takes more effort to clean, especially for the grinder base part. They are dishwasher safe, but because of odd angles, that bottom part doesn't clean as well. Ideally, you remove it as soon as coffee is made and a simple rinse under the faucet will usually do--but "ideally" doesn't happen a lot at this household. It is not a BIG deal, but just a tad more hassle than you expect coming from more simple machines. An odd thing happens when I accidentally push the "program" button while cleaning: it makes a continuous beeping noise that can only be canceled by unplugging the unit for a few minutes. That happened several times early one. Once unplugged, then of course you had to redo all the settings. I have no clue why it does that, and there is no way I have figured out to cancel the sound by pushing a button. Now, to the grinder: you will hear a lot about this thing being loud. Let me say this: when I read in the instructions about now having the ability to "wake up" to freshly ground coffee . . . I found out what that really means: YOU CAN NOT SLEEP THROUGH THE GRINDING PROCESS! Throw away your alarm clock, your grinder now takes its place. While that really has annoyed people, it doesn't bother me: it is a grinder, after all. It sounds literally like a WWII air raid. As the grinder empties the beans, it increases with a whining higher pitched sound. It does wake up some of my kids, but they go back to sleep. As a grinder itself, it is marginal: straight blade grinder with med. grounds. If I paid MSRP I'd be ticked-but I didn't & I really like itRead full review
This is at least my 3rd Cuisinart DGB-550BK! I love it. I have not taken this one out of the box as yet, still using the old one.....going on 10 years! But with supplies low, I appreciate having a back-up because the current one is starting to show signs of wear. I like the options: grind or not, 1-4 cups (I use to have a slower brew which produces more dense flavor) and the charcoal filters in the bottom of the water well. Great product.

The coffee brewed is on the weak side using the same amount of coffee I used in old Cuisinart, not easy to put brewing strainer party back in,doesn't use the size filter the book stated and the fresh grind area is already full of confusion and had to be dried daily..oh yeah and coffee maker won't work if the grinder part is removed...

I tried this coffee maker for 10 days. I could not get a consistent cup of coffee to save my life. I measured the beans, added the same amount of water, and it was pot luck from there. Some days it would take 7 minutes to brew, others 11-12 minutes. Some days weak, some days like 3 feet down under the Mississippi River. But that's not the worst part. Aside from being difficult to see how much water you were putting in, once it started grinding the beans, it sounded like a jet plane was taking off in my kitchen for 30 seconds.Too many parts to clean, and not easy. Lots of tough spots to reach, and time consuming. I've since replaced with the Breville Grind Control.

This is my 2nd one, so its pretty good. It works well, a bit noisy and the clean up is a little bit of a process. The grinder cup and permanent filter has to be thoroughly washed and coffee grind residue cakes up a bit. Be careful not to let beans fall into water reservoir and remember to cahnge the charcoal filter periodically. On the positive side, the coffee stays hot and the taste is so much better than drip coffee makers. The minor drawbacks are not enough to offset the quality of the coffee taste experience.

We sure needed this. Our original carafe was sadly damaged and leaking. This one looks as if brand new. Thank-you.

I had one of these machines for a long time and used it daily until one day the power would not stay on, so I decided to purchase another one. Using whole beans, it makes great coffee and with the built in water filter, it tastes even better. Be sure and clean the grinder parts daily otherwise they will become discolored and "gummy" from the coffee oil residue. This is an excellent machine from a great Company and looks good on the counter top.
