(Contemporary, 1958). The unique sound Coleman produced during this period was in part due to his playing a plastic sax, a wholly unusual choice for a professional musician. The record utilised a full quartet on each channel, with Coleman, Higgins, Cherry on pocket trumpet and bassist Scott DaFaro on the left, and Haden, Eric Dolphy on bass clarinet, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and Ed Blackwell on drums coming from the right.
