I got this amp in an effort to get some of the classic 60's/70's Marshall sounds. I also was looking for something "manageable" power-wise. This is very close to what I have in mind. I first connected a 1X12 with an EVM12. The sound is full and not too bright. The "Classic" gain is VERY clean. It almost won't break up. The "Ultra" gain is reminiscent of the JCM 900 up. Great warm tube saturation. I had a bit of trouble dialing in a small amount of gain, not too much but enough (think ZZTop). With the 1X12 I got an irritating spike at the beginning of each note. I was going to return it until I played it through my friends 4X12. WOW!!!!!! I now have it hooked up to my 2X12 ( I don't have a 4X12) and it is very close to what I was after. Considering the price, it is a real option for a tone that is almost unavailable in a pedal. The 15/7.5 watts delivers plenty of volume for rehearsal or club dates. The low wattage amps from the earlier days are very pricey, and this is IMHO, an amazing bargain. If you are looking for the classic sounds of the earlier years, this is a great amp to check out.Read full review

The "classic gain" channel doesn't do clean or usable distortion very well, but the overdrive channel does the great Marshall distortion that all DSL series amps are capable of. Price is very reasonable if the DSL series overdrive-distortion is what you're after.

With the right speaker configuration, you can't go wrong. Yeah, you can move up to a more powerful amp but why, are you playing out doors? My use is primarily recording and mid size clubs and it does the job quite well.

This is my first marshall I have owned. I wasn't sure what to expect. I also purchased the 2x12 cab with it. Overall I like it. It takes some time to dial it in to get the right sound. Best I can describe the amp is unique with its sound. The dirty channel is very dirty very early. The clean is very nice once dialed in, I find it breaks up pretty easily. I heard complaints about not enough low end and I have not had that problem. The low end is maybe a little less then others but you can still get a nice low end thump. I think the amp is better suited for heavy rock, alternative rock etc. Overall it is a good amp head which with a good cab you can easily play over a band

This amplifier with some simple modifications is simply outstanding. I use it with a pair of JBL E110 Speakers and find it to be very flexible in tonal pallet. I play mostly electric blues and find the tone to be great. For the price I dont think it can be beat
