Bought this with easy/thin types of bush such as privet in mind but it has proven itself capable of so much more. Have been using it professionally every day for 2 weeks and it has tackled everything so far, including cherry laurel, sloe, hawthorn, privet, yew and leylandii. A 5Ah lithium battery provides a solid hour of hedgetrimming, no loss of power as the battery drains, it just suddenly stops when it's flat. Don't bother with NiCd batteries, the trimmer runs more slowly and the power fades as the battery drains, giving a pretty miserable experience. Fantastic piece of kit.

Bought this product to prune tops of high hedges. Assembles easiy and cuts well especially from the sides through fairly thick branches. Used the trimmer strap it came with. definately recommend using the strap as it helps lift the trimmer. I am a female in my 60's and I found that it was a bit top heavy to use for more than half hour. battery is good. Dissappointed that I had to buy the battery and charger saperately which was extra and not cheap. Most electrical things come with battery and charger included and I don't have another Ryobi product with battery. Don't think I will ever use the extra pole included as it will be even heavier and longer. The 4 positions is good. Found the right angle position for prunning the top of hedges the easiest and you can get close up. Leaves the hedge looking good. Am glad I got it and will use it for short periods but probably better for the younger stronger person.Read full review

Very good at cutting, but ergonomics can be challenging. Its very hard to reach the trigger and dead-man's switch. As expected, it is heavy, especially with a higher rated battery. So cut in small chunks to give your arm a rest. It does go through thick hedging. It's also nice and quiet.

This is great and cuts through larger branches than ud expect. Battery last for ages. Only criticism is the weight, when used with the extention pole it becomes really unwieldy and really makes ur arms ache. I'm a 6ft fit (well...reasonably at least) bloke and my arms ached after about 5 minutes. I'd still recommend it though due to the power and efficiency of the product.

Well built and cuts through 15mm easily. I have used the trimmer twice to reshape large woody shrubs up to 2.5m high and the machine performs well. The electrical connectors between sections of the pole seem a little flimsy so I will need to keep a watch on those.
