2001 was probably the last good year for pop music (after it's revival that stared in the late '90. Dime-a-dozen pop groups and singers became staples on Top 40 radio stations and music video shows like TRL. Amoungst all of the watered down carbon-copies of carbon copies, a few of those pop acts were actually good...and Mandy Moore is one of them. This is the lead single to her 3rd album loaded with an agressive dance vibe complete with distorted vocals and tribal instraments and sounds thrown in the mix. Anyone who is taking the time to read this review probably isn't interested in that, but the other tracks on the single....so...moving on. The "I Wanna Be With You" (Live On MTV) track is an excellent recording of her smash single off her 2nd album (or re-worked version of her 1st album) which was also included on the Center Stage soundtrack. The performance is raw and simplistic, shunning all of the polish that most pop acts wouldn't let go of during the time it was out. Beautiful song...beautiful live version. "In My Pocket" (Hex Hector Main 7" Mix) is a dance mix that goes for just over 3 minutes. Taking the already upbeat track another step further towards the dancefloor. A good mix, but nothing new considering how most dance mixes follow the same formula. "In My Pocket" (Thunderpuss Club Mix) is a grittier mix for the clubs and lasts 10 minutes long. This mix takes some of the "meat" of the original song out to stress on the production (as most long club remixes do). Any Mandy Moore fan or fan of 'pop meets the clubs' type trax will love this CD single.Read full review
