These appear to be from an old IL Department of Transportation fleet. In most cases, the radios are dirty--I say this not to complain, but to prepare the buyer. The radios could stand to be packaged a little better. Out of 4 received (me and friends buying) one came with a broken heat sink fin. No problem programming radios and, so far, no problem modifying for ham band, though it does take a little work. Main things for modifying: adding tuning lugs to preselector coils, adjusting RX and TX VCOs, and spreading PA coils for good power/efficiency in ham band. I plan to get a few more.

It took very little time to get the receiver running on its original frequencies in the 49.2 to 49.8 band. Seems very sensitive. I have not had time to get the transmitter running. I didn't have a dummy suitable, but now I have built one that will take 60W for a while, so I will be testing the xmtr next. There was a little bit of rust on the outside screw-heads, but the inside is like brand new.

I am very happy with this radio. The one I got was in good condition. When I received it the heat sink had a lot of dust and dirt on it. I used a wet rag to clean the dust and dirt off of it. After letting it dry it looks great. I ended up with a high end of the commercial band 16 channel radio. After programming, I could have used the radio as is on 6 meters. The output was around 30W at the low end of the band. After adding mods to it that I found on the net the radio does 40W across the 6 meter band. I know of 6 other radios from this pile, only one did not work. There is a lot of information on the net about converting this radio to Ham use. It does require Motorola software to program it.

Ordered 2 radios and received them earlier than anticipated. Both radios were Low Band/High Split (42 - 50). Both front panels were damaged, one more than the other. But the insides are in excellent condition. Both codeplugs were read successfully and then new codeplugs programmed in. If you don't like the idea of damaged front panels, then go for the same radio for $30. It will be just as dirty but the head will be intact. Replacing the front panel could from this "DAMAGED" sale will cost much more than the price difference.

These radios are in good working order and can easily converted to 6 meters for Ham radio use.
