This book has been out of print for some time and is getting harder to find. I received my first copy as a Christmas give back in the late 1980s and loved it! I've purchased several other copies through the years as gifts. The author has collected a masterful sampling of Dr. Seuss' early writings and illustrations that give fantastic insight to the mind of a most interesting and peculiar person. You can see the character developing from Theodor Geisel into Dr. Seuss. His college and early work is adult and witty, sarcastic, whimsical and funny. He was adamantly opposed to fascism in the 1930s and it's clear in his output. He was not one to mince words on politics! I would have enjoyed the book even if Geisel had not evolved into Seuss. Well worth the read!
