  • perfect for diy electric guitar projects

i've used this on several guitars now over the years, and the results are always astounding. really easy to use. i recommend mixing it with a higher proportion of denatured alcohol ... i like 50/50 or so with warm water when mixing. it dissolves easily, and makes a great consistency that way. i use a soft clean t-shirt rag to apply it, and work it in. the effects can be positively stunning. its super easy to mix and use and the finishes you can achieve will blow your mind. it works well on the usual mahogany and maple, and most other woods. only mix a little more than you need, as it does NOT keep very long, tho the alcohol can make it last longer. be careful and dispose of used rags properly when using any kind of finish like this. all in all a stellar product. 10 stars, all the way.

  • Excellent wood dyes!

Very easy to use, following well written directions. I used this product for a diy guitar project, and it has turned out even better than I had hoped. The dye penetrated into the wood grain so it did not cover the wood, but it enhanced the grain making a truly beutiful piece. Will most likely use this again on other projects, although I still have more than enough for several applications. This concentrate really does go a long, long way! I absolutely recommend this product!

  • Great dyes!

These are some of the best dyes I have used. Really great rich saturated colors as described. I would recommend using hot water instead of the denatured alcohol solvent. It worked better for me and it penetrated better into the wood than the alcohol solvent I spent money on. I also advise that if you use the black, make a very concentrated color or add several coats of it. It has this slight tint of purple and does not look well left without a finish. But as soon as you apply the finish it should look great all nice and dark.

  • Good value, but...

I never used wood dye before. Purchasing this kit gave me the opportunity to experiment with wood dye without spending a lot of money. I needed to test the dye to determine how it would appear on a wood sample (before applying the dye to my project). After mixing one of the colors with water, I applied the mixture to a piece of wood veneer that matched the wood on my project. I discovered that the water had a damaging effect on the wood. This valuable experience was well worth the cost of the kit. It saved my project from ruin. However, the dye is packed in envelopes (probably to make the kit compact for easy shipping). Therefore, accessing small amounts of the dye from the envelopes is very difficult. That's why I didn't give this product five stars.

  • Strong stain! Jewel like color! Shows amazing grain detail! Flowchart from hell!

Try your hardest to follow the directions, even if they seem as confusing to you as they seemed to me. Make sure if you are using alcohol as your solvent, to still start with a little warm water to fully dissolve the pigment. I had trouble getting the yellow to integrate with blue because I skipped this part, but YOU can learn from my mistake and be a better human for it! I sure would like to find better containers for the powdered dyes though. The little plastic baggies are not ideal for storing them in. It's a good thing this stain works so beautifully.

  • High quality

These are very high quality "paints" they're dyes, I suppose. The USPS messed up and sent them the wrong way for like two days, and once they arrived I had pretty much changed my entire plans. Instead of a blue, I had opted to do a red/Amber burst combo. It was fairly easy, but you don't really get the vividness or intensity of color until after you put some clear coat on. I didn't quite get enough red due to it overpowering the Amber. All in all though it came out good.

  • Brilliant, deep colors

After 40+ years of amateur woodworking, I've used a huge variety of wood finishing products; Keda Dye is by far the best dye/stain out there if your into colors. The first two times I used it was for coloring guitar bodies and the results were fantastic. Now I use it for coloring knife handles. Easy to use, easy to mix, and produces profoundly rich hues.

  • Convenient, good quality, easy to use.

Good stuff. I like being able to keep it in powder form until needed. No need to store quarts of various colors. I used alcohol for mixing. Only criticism I have is the Red is more like a Burgundy. I was looking for a fire engine red. Couldn't adjust the Red to the desired shade by mixing. Would have been disappointed if I had only bought the Red and not the kit. (Hence the 4 stars). As they state the Blue IS powerful. Start with little amounts when mixing with blue. I like to bleach the wood prior to staining. That way the applied color is more true to the mixed color. Would I buy again ? - definitely.

  • Great dye kit at great price

This is an easy to use kit that produces rich colors. Just add to hot water and stir and your ready to go. I did my les Paul in lemon twist with a hint of red and it came out perfect. Next one will be blue transparent. Excellent.

  • I finally found the right product.

I've been trying to get that tiger's eye finish as well as the burnt pumpkin finish on a guitar. I've watched umpteenth you tubes of all these homemade and secret recipes as other dyes are $20 a pop and I need approximately five different colors. I saw a friend of mine post some gorgeous guitar finishes he was currently accomplishing and set about asking him my usual 20 questions like a precocious 5 year old. He simply kept quoting Keda Dyes over and over again. After question 5 I relented and purchase a 5 pack for under $20 shipped to my door....All I can say is Keda Dyes over and over...Great product. Thanks
