Everything lights up and the gears move, but when an actual tape is placed inside the player, it's not strong enough to spin. I opened the device and cleaned the belts which helped a little but I think they need to be replaced entirely which hopefully will fix the problem. The player also makes a pretty noticeable low frequency when on. I might need to clean the tape head or demagnetize it - not sure. The volume knob either has some loose circuitry or needs to be cleaned as well, I'm hoping the latter. All of this is not a surprise for a tape player this old but it would have been nice to know ahead of time as I would have just skipped over this particular one..
