William Lustig continues his homage to Italian cinema (following the Giallo-influenced MANIAC) with VIGILANTE. A factory worker's life is shattered by an attack on his family by a street gang, and after a stint in jail following his violent reaction to the verdict, he joins the local vigilantes for revenge. The film is very well cast, with Fred "The Hammer" Williamson delivering the best performance (his opening speech is a highlight and brilliantly sets the tone for the film). Blue Underground's transfer (the label is run by Lustig) is a reissue of Anchor Bay's special edition (from Lustig's tenure with Anchor Bay); and as such is the best the film ever looked. If you loved DEATH WISH or the working-class-man-kicking-criminal-butt genre is your thing, this is a must-see!
