SynopsisTwo young boys suddenly disappear. One of them, a Zuni, leaves a pool of blood behind. Lt. Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police tracks the brutal killer. Three things complicate the search: an archeological dig, a steel hypodermic needle, and the strange laws of the Zuni. Compelling, terrifying, and highly suspenseful, "Dance Hall of the Dead" never relents from first page til last., Don't miss the TV series, Dark Winds, based on the Leaphorn, Chee, & Manuelito novels, now on AMC and AMC+! The Edgar-Award winning second novel in New York Times bestselling author Tony Hillerman's bestselling and highly acclaimed Leaphorn and Chee series "Hillerman is a wonderful storyteller."--New York Times Book Review Two Native American boys have vanished into thin air, leaving a pool of blood behind them. Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police has no choice but to suspect the very worst, since the blood that stains the parched New Mexico ground once flowed through the veins of one of the missing, a young Zuñi. But his investigation into a terrible crime is being complicated by an important archaeological dig . . . and a steel hypodermic needle. And the unique laws and sacred religious rites of the Zuñi people are throwing impassable roadblocks in Leaphorn's already twisted path, enabling a craven murderer to elude justice or, worse still, kill again.

Exciting, a detective mystery set in the Navajo Res. up around the "Four Corners".

A very good detective mystery. Number two in chronological order of publication. The Terry Hillman Navajo Indian Reservation detective thrillers. Written in the late 1970's through, I believe the 1980's. No smart phone/ internet world These novels are so interesting and describe Navajo lands and culture. Dance Hall Of The Dead is very much of what the author Tony Hillman is all about. It's nice to be able to enjoy excitement and adventure and t the same time learn some things about people I have never met. I strongly encourage readers to get all of these mysteries, at least the first 15. You won't be sorry.

Good shape. Second Leaphorn and Chee boo...

Good shape. Second Leaphorn and Chee book for me (well, Leaphorn... Chee hasn't been introduced yet, I guess). Good characters, compelling mystery, not too long but not too short either.

  • Hits the spot

Being from New Mexico and now so far away from there relocating after college, it certainly brought me back to my roots. The descriptions of the Landscapes were 'right on" with that area's magnificent and colorful terrain. the 'who dunnits' always kept you involved, the characters are well defined and the cops were like your own 'Super Friends'. It is best to read them in order!

  • Great Navajo interpreter

Hillerman's books are selling at higher prices than your average used paperbacks should be going for. But since his death he has become quite the hot comodity. I'm now sorry I gave all of mine away after reading them. They are all worrth re-reading.
