The filter works well overall but the fan speed buttons are backwards high speed button turns the fan on low and the low speed button turns the fan on high.

In the past, I have endorsed this product from Honeywell constantly. NOT THIS TIME. The unit I purchased is clearly reconditioned and NOT NEW. I purchased NEW. Nothing stated that the machine was reconditioned. The electrical cord is yellowed and discolored leaving the purifier. Worse, the LOW SETTING emits a flicking sound that is usually the sound of a dying unit. I have had many Honeywell air purifiers of this exact model for over a decade. I'm very disappointed because I trusted the outside packaging, it appeared new, and threw the box and packaging materials away. If I tip the unit on it's side I can hear the internal fans scratching the plastic encasing. THIS UNIT WILL BREAK within months. I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED ONE OF THESE PROBLEMS with this type of unit unless the unit was years old and needed replacement. Now what do I do???Read full review

This unit is prolly the best sub-$100 unit available out there. I use it as a bedside fan, (I previously slept with a fan on low.) it not only moves the air, but filters it, makes white noise to halp me sleep, and also comes with a remote for a tactile interface in the dark. Simply velcro the remote in a convenient but out of the way place. Point it at your pillow and let it run on low 24/7, and you'll be accomplishing several things. It reduces the dust mites in your pillow, by not allowing the dust to settle on it, and by keeping it dry. It also does the work of a big unit, as you sleep in a bubble of clean air without having to run a much bigger unit to clean the air in your whole bedroom, or the whole house. It will clean the air in your bedroom somewhat, but it's more important to be be breathing clean air, and pointing a effective, but small unit at you as you sleep is the most cost effective way to accomplish that task. After looking around, ebay is the best place to get a new 17005 for the best price. I have 2, 1 in bedroom, and 1 in the living room. I also purchased one for my dad, and he loves it, as well. Use this in place of a fan, and enjoy cleaner air. The remote works, and has 4 big buttons. The unit is programmable, and I tried programming it to speed up right before my alarm clock goes off, but it doesn't wake me up, so I kinda gave up on that idea. I have used dozens of purifiers over the years, and this one is the most versatile and provides the most bang for your buck. The only improvement I would ask for is an optional vent control like the dash vents on your car, or a nice A/C unit, so you could control the direction of the air without moving the whole unit. This unit is quiet on low, but noisy on high. Keep in mind, the only way for effective filtration is to move a lot of air through the filter, the more-the better. Mine spend 75% of their life on low, and the remaining time on medium.Read full review
Pro: I like the Cleanable Reusable Filter which saves you money over the years. My wife has allergies and we have 2 of these in the home and her allergies have cleared up. She is allergic to Tree pollen,Grass and Dog and Cat Dander (we have 2 dogs in the house). It has removed all 3 so that her eyes are not itchy and her nose is not running. It really moves a lot of air also. Cons: Noisy, we have to run at low speed so that you can sleep or listen to the TV. "Quiet Care" is a little misleading. Quiet compared to what? "A Lawn Mower down the street"? Paid $115.00 at Wallmart for this model and returned since paid less than 1/2 the price with shipping by bidding on Ebay.
