I can't believe some folks here claim this is a plane for all skill levels. Seriously? No wonder so many folks here had nothing good to say about this plane LOL. This little guy is NOT for noobs, it can barely pass as intermediate (that's right, expect lots of crash lol). Oh and getting the cg right is tricky on the maiden flight... just moving the battery back 1/8 of an inch in the tray made it a completely different animal in the air. I suggest you start by putting the battery as forward in the tray as you can go on your maiden, then go from there. Use the freshest top grade battery for this plane; it drains voltage like a blood-sucking vampire and this bird likes to be up to speed before making any turns or it'll fall like a brick. The last thing you want is during takeoff the LVC cuts in and out when it barely left the ground and you lose all controls trying to turn the plane 180 resulting in a pile-driving nosedive halfway through lol. And DO check for possible looseness of the heat-shrink that hold the control rod of the tailerons together because I found plenty of defective examples right from the factory, with the heat-shrink and CA glue failing to hold the joined ends as one solid piece. That's a mid-air loss of control right there on the maiden or subsequent flight BTW. Even when both tailerons are trimmed symmetrically before takeoff, this doesn't guarantee it will track straight in the air without rolling toward one side or another. Be ready to counter the roll by trimming with your TX's electronic trim setting as you go along, get it trimmed to fly straight first, then bring it down to make mechanical corrections as necessary, then take it up in the air again to get the plane to track level and straight by bringing both TX and the plane's mechanical linkages to neutral trim setting. The AS3X won't do its job properly if you have to make more than 3 clicks on the TX trim tab to keep it flying true, so do the grunt work and get the plane mechanically trimmed to neutral. On the first UMX F-16 I received, the taileron slop/play is pretty bad. Because of this you must NOT follow the instruction manual's suggestion, which is to have the front leading edge of the tailerons mechanically trimmed to neutral 1mm ABOVE the bottom edge of the fuselage side panels. THAT can be wrong, depending on the taileron slop. Do this instead if you got one that's wiggly-jiggly on the taileron joints: bend or stretch as required the tailerons' U-shaped rods so that the front leading edge of the tailerons are 1mm BELOW, NOT ABOVE, the bottom edge of the fuselage side panels. For a visual of what I'm describing, please search online for UMX F-16 EFLU2850 Manual and go straight to diagrams on page 7. Also periodically make sure the clear adhesive tape that goes over the rear ends of the side panels that hold the taileron joints in place is not losing its adhesiveness or it's time to replace the tapes. I've had loss of control and pile-dove my 1st F-16 into the concrete because the tape was coming off. All of what I just said clearly indicates that this F-16 IS NOT a beginner's choice, as with all agile micro warbirds like this F-16. Get a UMX Habu ( gezundheit! ) if this is your first go at EDF micro jets coming off from flying forgiving prop planes. And I would go as far as not recommending this plane for intermediate OR EVEN IMPATIENT experienced pilots either, because the plane does not fly itself straight out of the box, at least not the first 2 fresh out of the box UMX F-16's I've flown; they all had teething problems on my maiden. Actually both examples fly better after I epoxy the bits and pieces of what's left of the fuselage after the maiden crash (LOL) now that I've added a few grams of weight toward the front (CG shifted forward). Oh and DO avoid flying in stiff wind, this little guy even with AS3X couldn't handle it, due to low thrust to punch out of hairy wind-induced situations.Read full review

Elevons are incorporated for pitch and roll control. Roll rate was sluggish and resulted in non axial roll. Battery overheated.....super hot. I think this contributed to total loss of flight control on the second flight. I have been flying over 40 yrs. crash was not due to pilot error. Unfortunately the plane was too badly damaged after the crash to be repaired. I should have bought the Habu.
