I initially bought this switch because I needed a rugged waterproof LAN switch for outdoors. I was hesitant because my outdoor devices are 12v POE. Even though this is a 24v POE passthrough switch, it will run on a 12v POE injector. I have a 12v access point and two 12v security cameras that I have plugged into this switch, all powered through the single 12v POE injector at the input of the switch. It should be noted that this switch WILL NOT operate without a POE power source, and one is NOT included with it. I wouldn’t recommend using anything higher than a 24v POE injector, because it may damage the switch, as it is rated for 24v. For the price, it works great as a 12-24v POE unmanaged outdoor LAN switch. If you plan on trying to use NON-POE devices with this switch, make sure you use a cable that will NOT pickup the power pairs on the LAN ports, as all ports on this switch have POE voltage. Probably wouldn’t be a good thing to pipe 12-24v into non POE devices. I currently use a 12v/2.34a power source to power my POE injector, with the idea that the 2.34 amps will support the 3 devices plugged into the switch. If I had a higher amp 12v power supply, I would use that instead. I’m considering replacing the 12v power source for the injector with a car battery or marine battery charged by a solar panel....wouldn’t be susceptible to power surges or indirect lightning strikes at that point. I spent hours trying to find another comparable outdoor POE LAN switch before making this purchase, and wish I would have had this information before-hand, so I hope this helps save someone a little time. I highly recommend this device.Read full review

Fantastic solution for small Ubiquiti-based AP's or other small, low power configurations. We used to buy a NEMA box from the hardware store and throw an EdgeRouter in it for this exact purpose, but even the NEMA box is half the price of this little low-power wonder! It does what it claims: You give it PoE (gigabit, 24v on 4 and 5, 0v on 7 and 8), and it gives you three more active gigabit PoE ports. You can use a hose clamp, zip tie, or even a single self-tapping screw. I installed one in thick steel roof flashing this week with the single included screw. Seriously, this thing is perfect. The only thing I would have wanted is a DC barrel jack so that you could power it separately and have four PoE gigabit ports. Maybe next revision. ;-) And really, can you argue with that price??

The problem is that the passthrough PoE is specific to Ubiquiti devices and will not work with devices that support PoE standards like 803.2af and 803.2at. Unfortunately, the camera that I bought this for, doesn't work with the passive 24V PoE that this supplies. Looks like it is an outdated product built for in-house devices only. Ubiquiti should update all their devices to support standards, both the switches as well as the devices that take the power from them. Otherwise, a solidly built device that seems like it would fulfill the weather-resistant claims that it makes. A shame that I cannot use it.

Compact unit, seems to be rather weatherproof from what I can see. It did NOT come with a POE injector.. 24v poe injector required. Otherwise, flawless operation for 125 foot run from telephone pole to my house. Recommend

Great price and work well even as a way to insert a AP in a single ethernet run
