Holds tight with secure grip.
This is an excellent phone holder. I have this mounted to the handlebar or my motorcycle, and it holds my phone with ease. I have a Samsung Note 8, so my phone is on the larger side, and it also has a small case on it, but it still fits into the mount. I use the rubber straps just for extra insurance, but I don't think you need them. It handled freeway speeds and above without wobbling or shaking and I never felt I would lose my phone. The only downside I found is specific to my phone. It will press against the Bixby button while in the mount. This was resolved by removing the plastic button extension in my phone case. RAM mounts set a High standard for other mounts to live up to, and Im yet to find any competetors that get close.

Great for smaller phones but not for big ones
Perfect for smaller phone's such as a Samsung S7 The safety plastic won't cover larger phone's like a Nexus 6p. My phone flew out when I hit a pothole and luckily I caught it Compared to slip grip designs (which are less universal of course) the design seems a little too modular and clunky. It would be great to have one piece you could click to disconnect rather than twisting modular components and a mesh system

Another great RAM product
All RAM products are great, been using them for many years and this phone holder is no exception. Great quality and easy to use. Because RAM holders are all interchangeable I was able to re-purpose a suction arm I used to use with a GPS. Suction fits nicely on the underside of the open storage compartment of the new RAV4 and the phone ends up between the gear lever and temperature control.

Holds even large phones very solidly anywhere
I've used one of these on a motorbike on my daily commute for several years without issue. I now use one in the car as they're the only thing I've found to hold the phone stable. The tether isn't needed unless you are doing something extreme as the grip is very strong without it.
