NotesOne of the most impressive things about the Dead was their indefatigable drive to add new material to their sets. They had just added several jazzy numbers to their repertoire when these two 1973 concerts were recorded-one of which, "Eyes of the World," plays a central role in both shows. Though these are not complete shows, only one song they played-"Deal"-does not appear here in at least one version. Out of print for years and never before available at music retail, this coveted "Dick's Picks" volume (presented in HDCD sound) features a particular favorite that they performed all too rarely, "Box of Rain," plus an array of truly amazing medleys that shift from electrifying to lilting.
