Photographer: Sylvain Fasy. Though it displays considerable evidence of its late-1980s origins, including drum machines and other sonic giveaways, Isabelle Antena's ON A WARM SUMMER NIGHT is mostly a leisurely, enjoyable cruise through a host of different musical genres. The French singer's interpretations of Chic-influenced R&B on "Caprices" and "Time to Work," big band jazz on "Une Journee Banale A New York City," and gently insistent bossa nova on "Romancia Del Amor," are both charming and effective. But she really hits her stride on the torchy "Eclat De Nuit" and the seductively laid-back "Easy Living," hinting at the jazzy roots that were to provide the basis of her 2005 comeback.
