Healthy culture for starting Kefir water. I made two 1/2 gallon batches. I added approximately 1/4 cup of grains in each jar, with 1/2 cup of turbinado sugar and 1 tablespoon of mapel syrup and my grains have been multiplying and producing an excellent fizzy drink. I let the first batch go about 4-5 days, then I added 1 cup of herbal tea(peppermint, lavender, ginger) and 2 tablespoons of turbinado and i filtered the kefir and put into corked wine bottles for 2nd fermentation. IT WAS AMAZING. All my friends want to brew their own now! Fun and productive use of time and energy. Highly recommended product. Not nearly as tart as milk kefir, less acidic and punchy than kombucha and it's physical appearance is less intimidating compared to other cultures. I purchased my Kefir Grains a few weeks ago. I immediately put them in Distilled Water. I added 1/3c White Sugar + a pinch of Baking Soda. It worked perfectly! I added lots of Ginger Juice & a little bit more sugar! Best Ginger Brew EVER! I control the strength & sweetness! I make it perfect, to my taste! I have made several batches since then! The grains came on time and were very neatly packed in an air-tight package. There was much more than 1 cup! Included were detailed instructions with pictures, as well as helpful tips, troubleshooting techniques, and online access to so much information! The grains starting growing with the very 1st fermentation. Using bottled spring water in one jar, I added jaggery and molasses. In the other, I used bottled spring water and white sugar and molasses. They both more than doubled the amount of grains I started with! Personally, I prefer the white sugar kefir. I fermented for about 4 days and the flavor was awesome! I then did a second ferment with a small amount of natural organic apple juice added into the fliptop bottle. I left the bottles out for 2 days. They bubbled and fizzed. After refrigeration for 1 day, they are fizzy just like seltzer and soda! The grains are growing with each ferment. They are so healthy! I am totally satisfied with these quality grains and would gladly order them again, but I can't see needing anymore as they are producing my water kefir perfectly!Read full review
