Features are mostly great. Water proof! Very slim. High build quality. Fast response times. Great looking screen. Camera is mediocre to poor. No flash. No optical image stabilization or optical zoom. Only 8mp. Panorama mode makes too large of a picture. Ease of use is only 3/5 because of the large size. You cannot sit with this in your jeans pocket. Maybe a khaki pocket could hold it sitting but not comfortably. Also cant operate with one hand usually.... The phone should have smaller bezels like the nexus 6.... But then again the nexus 6 is over $600 and this xperia goes for $300 nowadays. Other than the size, the phone is easy to use. Battery life is very good. Lasts a full day easily. In stamina mode it lasts even longer. Stamina mode is a powerful feature and better than I've seen in other phones. Phone takes a long time to charge and magnetic charger is hard to connect and comes loose easily. USB charge port is hidden behind a waterproof door so annoying to use. Value for money is great. If you get a good condition unit for under $300 used then you have the biggest phone on the block at half the price. Too bad the camera is not good.Read full review
I got this phone as soon as it was imported into the U.S a month and a half ago. I just love the phone so much. I also owned Samsung Note 1 and 2 over the past few years. To give them credit, those phone were really good and huge. However, this Sony Z Ultra is the beast and the best. I just love everything this phone has in terms of its functionality, reliability and quality. None of other phones including Samsung Note 3 could be comparable with this animal. I love the screen brightness that does not create any strain in my eyes after reading e-book for a couple hours. Actually, I could read e-book with this phone for hours while I do not have any eye problems -- while I could not read books with Samsung Notes for consecutive hours. This phone has had no lantency in sending or receiving email while Samsung Notes really have this issue. A lot of times I had to go back and forth to keep deleting email that had been deleted previously during my use with Notes. Overall, I love this phone. This phone is still considered the best even Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a little better specs came out last month. I am sure that this Sony phone will certainly be embraced if marketing is done for this phone in U.S in the right way. People for sure will have a second look at this phone rather than to just choose Samsung phone on Android or IPhone on IOS platforms.Read full review
I purchased this phone for my in laws, they can't see very well and I thought this would help them. I opened it up and said to myself, WOW! I'm going to test this for a few days, after 2 days I decided to keep it for myself and give my in laws my Note 4. That's right, I gave up my Note 4 for this Sony Z Ultra! I would like the screen to be just a tiny bit brighter in the sun because of the glass reflection but it's still manageable. Other than that I'm might be worried that the back it all glass too, I'm prone to accidents w/phones! :/ I absolutely LOVE the HUGE screen! I think Sony can make this same phone a little smaller if they cut the top and bottom bezel a little bit and keep the same screen size. That would be perfect! Battery wise I get a full days use out of it! More than my Note 4. I do miss Milk Music but I have google Play Music and XM for that. The ear piece should be moved to where the "SONY" logo is because it's awkward to move the phone all the way to the edge where the earpiece is but still functional. I had the One Plus, Note 3, Note 4 and this by far is my favorite. Yes it's huge but I have big long skinny fingers that have no problem gripping this hunk of tech. Love it! I hope Sony makes a version 2 of this!Read full review
I wanted a large screen smartphone; but not spend what was required for iPhone 6+ which has a 5.5" screen. This Sony phone has a 6.44" screen....for half price from current iPhone 6+ and it's (Sony Z Ultra)original launch price in 2013. Specs are amazing, and still current. Sony display my favorite of all major manufacturer's displays. Incredibly bright; great contrast ratio, 1080pHD which was important to me. Not oversaturated like Samsung, nor the heavy skin of Samsung. Very light overlay of Sony skin over Android. Large phone; best of all out there now for web and media consumption; while still being a phone. Aluminum/glass superior build. Biggest surprise was how light in the hand it was. Easier to manage than what I had read. Waterproof! Will be great viewing in coach aircraft seat as most airline configs no longer allow easy laptop viewing. Using separate wireless charging stand for double use as viewing stand---and still fits in slacks (not jean) pocket, too. It is very fast with great call quality and running KitKat 4.4.4. As it's unlocked; Lollipop announced for this device to be pushed from Sony later this month. No waiting for carrier OTA push. Disappointed in absence of flash from camera....yet takes surprisingly good pictures. I use flash on prior devices maybe 5% of time; so not enough to deter purchase. First phone I've used where reading glasses not required! Phone, tablet, phablet---it's two in one. Currently enjoying a re-look from tech community; and those looking to an alternative to iPhone 6+ or LG or SamsungMega. Exhaustively reviewed and tried competition---but iPhone 6+ too expensive for it's capacity restrictions. And 5.5" is not 6. Nor 6.44". LG nice phone but heavy; and Samsung over-saturated displays too not-true-to-life; and feels cheap in hand.Read full review
Great screen, crystal clear and much better than Samsung Note 3 (I also own a Note 3). Camera (both front and back) are not as good as the Samsung Note 3, pictures are blurry unless there is enough light, the Note 3 does better in this category. All android features are supported and function just fine. Skype, Tango works well on this except Wechat messaging function freeze up or discoloring happens until you reboot the phone, this does not happen on the Note 3. Audio is not loud enough while the screen is awesome for watching videos which is a real bummer. When you compare the price difference between the Note 3 and the Xperia Z Ultra ~$800 to $500 the Sony is a better deal, but overall usability the Note 3 is a better phone. I love the Sony for watching videos (with headphones), reading docs but email/text/other messaging apps the Note 3 is much better because the keyboard is more sensitive with bigger key even though the Sony has larger screen.Read full review
