Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Power Strips & Surge Protectors
The power strip does do what it says, it will save power. It does control the 4 outlets -eventually. This will save power, but at a higher inconvenience cost than you might expect. This power strip is very slow to react. None of this is the seller's fault. The only thing missing from the listing was the 15W minimum power draw needed from the master device for the APS to react. By my tests, that is a conservative figure, a 10W draw was adequate with my unit. I'm comparing this device to similarly-priced Advanced Power Control strips in my home from Tricklst*r and others that I've had for years. They all energize the controlled outlets within 5 seconds of the master being turned on and switch off within 10-15 seconds of the master being turned off. With these other similarly priced APSs, if I turn on the TV to watch the news, I have sound before I have picture. When I turn off the TV, the the controlled outlets are off before the TV's indicator changes from "On" to EPA standby mode. WIth this Globe APS, there is a delay of up to 60 seconds after my control device, a 24" TV, is switched on before the controlled outlets are energized. There is a delay of a minute after the TV is shut off before the controlled outlets are de-energized. I tested the master outlet with a 60W incandescent lamp. This test would determine whether the TV, being a highly capacitive load and close to the minimum needed power draw was responsible. It wasn't; the delays were unchanged. I also tried a power tool, a highly inductive load, with the same result. Whether this would be an inconvenience for others, I can't say. My use is slightly unique, as in the bedroom where I want to use this APS, I have Google Home programed to turn on the TV, then sound an alarm to wake me. The APS is supposed to turn on the amp and a lamp on the dresser. I sleep soundly, by wake fully alert. I stopped the alarm and was stumbling across a cold room in the dark to get to the dresser as the TV started showing the news without sound. I know that I could use a Home controlled switch to control the light, but that would be an extra expense and a parasitic power draw 24x7m and it wouldn't solve the power on/off delays of the amp, which are annoying. If I were to lay in bed wasting a minute every morning during the winter for the lamp to turn on before rising, that would be 30 minutes/month X $60/hour for my time. I could leave that 7W LED ON all the time and save money I'll be finding another solution, probably a different APS.Read full review
