First of all, it is Petzl quality, and they set the standard for wearable headlamps for hiking and mountaineering. It was even priced lower than the competitors. I needed something that is multifunction. It cam with three AAA batteries (like most Petzl headlamps this is standard). It only has a single button operation for all of the functions and using it in gloves was easy, but using with snow gloves it was hard to find the button. To turn it on simply press and release the button and the low level white light mode is on. Tap again for a little brighter, and once more for a high beam you won't be able to outrun on foot while jogging. Press and hold the button to use the color modes. They are only available in low level settings. First red followed by red strobe, blue and blue strobe, and then green and green strobe. Press and hold to return to white light mode. I have seen more expensive lights at REI that weren't anywhere near this capable.Read full review

Love it! No matter what I'm doing, I reach for my Petzl over an ordinary flashlight everytime! Truly glad I bought this. It even helped me find a very small object in the pile of the carpet two days ago. Happy with everything about it, no complaints or dislikes about it. First time I've owned a Petzl, so I cannot compare others, but I've heard only good things about Petzl which led me to this brand, and I am very happy with mine.
I had one of these before being deployed to iraq in 2007. I never had any issues with it at all. It took a beating while in my assault pack during the day, and on my head at night. Unfortunately i lost the first one i owned so i bought another. Still a great product
