  • A Perfect Book by an Incredible Author

Let's talk about how perfect Monstrous Regiment is as a book. This is one of my absolute favorites from Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I have multiple editions, plus the audiobooks version. Fans will already know about this series and the important place that this book has in the overall world-building achievement of an author who was, sadly, taken from us way too soon. If you have not read any discworld books, this one is a wonderful first start. On one level, STP's story looks at a rag-tag group of diverse individuals and how they work together to accomplish an almost impossible task. There is wonderful comedy, some intense emotional moments and, looking back on the loss of the author, some very personal peeks into a frustrating illness and horrible situation. On a deeper level, this story allows STP to explore societal commentary on the tragedy of war, human diversity, sexual identity and how we relate to each other through the fog of assumption, unknown bigotry and group pressure. Honestly, I cannot recommend this book highly enough!!
