This deluxe 2 disc box set edition is plush with extras that are highly collectible. In 1911, the Prince of Carpathia (Sir Laurence Olivier) travels to England for the coronation of King George V. An American showgirl, Elsie Marina (Marilyn Monroe) is performing in a musical review at a theater close to the coronation event. Elsie's boss happens to be one of the Prince's former flames. When the Prince goes to the theater to visit her, he and Elsie meet. Elsie immediately decided to lock her sights on the Prince. But he's only interested in a quick fling with no strings. It's already too late for Elsie since she's fallen for the Prince head over heels. The Prince's mother-in-law seems to have been taken by Elsie! Much to the Prince's chagrin, Elsie's invited to attend all of the official coronation ceremonies. While thrust together, the ever bumbling Prince & charmingly naive showgirl begin to reconsider the values of their lives in relation to each other. Disc 1 includes the features film, "The Prince and the Showgirl," in the region 1, full frame 1.33 format. The original theatrical trailer, an excerpt from a newsreel & film highlights are extras. Disc II includes the film, "The Legend of Marilyn Monroe," in the same format as Disc 1. Director Terry Sanders & producer David L. Wolper are interviewed. An original theatrical 27" by 40" movie poster is part of this deluxe package. The senitype image for the film is included as is a 35mm film frame. Eight original lobby card prints, a beautiful 16 page commemorative booklet & a collection of B&W still photographs are part of this deluxe box set edition. The personal histories backstage are pretty juicy. Olivier's wife, Vivian Leigh was insanely jealous of Marilyn Monroe; but, Sir Laurence was anything but happy acting with the very insecure actress who he thought was unprofessional. Monroe continued throughout her acting career to be so insecure that directors had to use tactics to draw her out of her dressing rooms to perform.
