History never fails to amaze!
THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN is absolutely fantastic. Well written, sharply edited, cast perfectly. Who knew that the writing of the Oxford Dictionary could be so amazingly entertaining. After many failed attempts to write the Dictionary THE COMMITTEE choose a professor who is unheard of and expendable. BUT he sees the overwhelming task ahead and goes public asking for volunteers to submit words. The publicity flyer crosses the path of a good doctor who is suffering from PTSD after the American civil war - and the story flows from then. In real life now time, the making of the movie was beset with legal issues, that create a whole story line in itself. Do watch Behind the Scenes and google away! So this under rated film has had no reputation for its epic proportions. It was recommended to me, and I am very glad to know of its existence. In every way, this movie deserves to be enjoyed by many. Even though it is a tad blood thirsty.
