  • Great family fun!

I love Scopa! When I was young, the men would gather to play until the early hours, while the women and children amused themselves. I was lucky that my mother taught me to play whilst on holidays! Scopa is so interesting and offers several game plays - all exciting and very competitive! A brilliant "brain game" which helps to excise one's memory! Scopa is an Italian card game that is also popular in Brazil (introduced in by Italian immigrants) and is also played in countries like Libya and Somalia. It is played with a standard Italian 40-card deck, mostly between two players or four in two partnerships, but it can also be played by 3, 5, or 6 players. The name SCOPA is an Italian noun meaning "broom", since taking a scopa means "to sweep" all the cards from the table. Watching a game of scopa can be highly entertaining, since games traditionally involve lively, colourful, and somewhat strong-worded banter in between hands. However, skill and chance are more important to the outcome of the game. The cards are brilliantly designed in colourful suits of Coppe (Cups), Ori or Denari (Gold or Coins), Spade (Swords) and Bastoni (Clubs). I highly recommend this game for endless hours of fun!
