The mix up started with initial release of Hendrix's first LP in the UK. Hendrix hated the UK cover hence this later that year release US cover that he personally approved. Also the move in the late 60s away from mono meant such releases soon became rare. This problem then morphed into like the Beatles' earlier Capitol Records experience, the US label (Reprise) changing tracks without the artist's approval to remove titles and replace with prior UK single hits. So unknowingly the label destroyed the full creative impact of the UK release (which I think has never been officially released in the USA. Not that Reprise probably cared since the US release went on to become a big hit and spent many weeks on the LP charts! So this release is in part an oddity but remastered (with cleaned up rather than remixed mono tracks and so avoiding the reprocessed stereo tracks that were on the UK and the US originals), the whole LP still burns bright. I grew up with the UK version so have a soft spot for it but the US release is no disaster and is an interesting alternative to say the least. The one thing is that you definitely need to play this on an amp with "mono" output controls and to play loud to really appreciate otherwise it does sound weak to my ears when heard through modern stereo systems!Read full review

Mono US version, basically it's a mono mix with sounds like a remix (which it isn't), The dynamics have Mitchell's drums upfront and more prenounced bass guitar. Jimi's guitars are mostly the same with a touch more freak out! However, sometimes his vocals are buried on some tracks. At first I wasn't sure, now after a few listenings I'm finding that this is essentially another version of this classic which sound not only different but is great. The US track order is different to and omits 3 tracks from the UK release and includes the first 3 UK singles. Remember at the time mid sixties most people listend to the radio through a AM transitor radio or in on car radio so a sympathetic mono mix would be tailored for that. Essential US vinyl Mono reissue from the original master tapes a must for any Hendrix completist. Read full review

For the price it is okay but there are probably better pressings of this album out there. I expected much more when I read the hype sticker
