  • Neither as good nor as bad as some in this series, but better than average

We have at least 25 vintage (obviously non-satiric) Ladybird books because my son loves them, so have a standard for comparison when reading these satires. These new, comedic takes on the old (earnest and somewhat plodding series) are a fun idea, and the artwork and dulcet tone is perfect. We have three of the new series (the comic, satiric series that is). The book on The Cat is first rate, only missing being a perfect 5 out of 5 because it is too short, I wanted more! :) This book, on The Meeting, would rate perhaps a 3.8 out of 5. It's mildly amusing, has no clunkers among the jokes, and is certainly current to how it is in today's working world. The book on Mindfulness was awful. Maybe unlike cats and meetings, mindfulness training is simply not well enough known to be that great a subject for satire, or maybe the authors just couldn't think up that many good jokes. I am now torn as to whether to spring for The Shed and The Wife. The problem really is that while the books are a reasonable price, the shipping costs twice as much as the book when you are buying in the U.S. If they are all like the Mindfulness book, I'd be tossing $20 out the window just to find out.
