    Best entry point into 10G networking

    This is the best entry point for 10G networks, either at home or at office. I tested the card with multitude od DAC cables (I focused on shorter than 5 meters cables), from high-end HP and Arista cables to cheapest sub-$10 no-names, and everything works. Card requires little cooling, not a fan or anything, but having any airflow in the vicinity is good for electronics, or at least not baking adjacent cards. Note for PCI-Express bandwidth and versions: This card is PCIe 2.0 x8, but it works the same when inserted in PCIe 3.0 x4 port (like all modern mainstream motherboards offer in 3rd x16 slot, which is actually x4 electrically connected). The card doesn't like PCIe 1.0 slots, however, resulting in lower transfer speeds (I'm hitting around 3.5 Gb/s for single connection, and topping at 7.2 Gb/s for multiple streams), despite theoretical PCIe bandwidth far exceeding required one. This applies to all Core2 - era machines, including Xeons E54xx. Anything from LGA1366 upwards should work on full speed. Windows Server 2016 and 10 include drivers for this card, but I'd suggest looking into Mellanox's own WinOF package, as it includes wider configuration options, and introduces teaming and failover support. Now only if SFP+ 10G switches were just a tiny little bit more affordable...

    I cannot believe this works

    These worked without any installs or updates on 2 Dell R710 and 1 Dell R610 servers. My AMD threadripper Windows 10 PC was a little more troublesome. I’m device manager I had to “discover” drivers on the PC instead of look for them online. It’s the longer way of updating devices. If you’re familiar with PCs you’ll know what I’m talking about. They are blazing fast on all 4 of my computers and work seamlessly with my Microtek 10gb switch.
