Reviews"Readers who already love [George R. R.] Martin and his ability to bring visceral human drama out of any story will be thrilled to find this trilogy brought together and injected with extra life." -- Booklist   "The real reason to check out this collection is that it's simply great storytelling. SynopsisNEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * Taking place nearly a century before the events of A Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin's ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY LOS ANGELES TIMES AND BUZZFEED These never-before-collected adventures recount an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living consciousness. Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne, there was Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals--in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg--whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn't dead--yet. • Quickly became my favorite book that I own!!

I love that these short stories have been put together so exquisitely. I'm extremely pleased with the illustrations and the overall cost design... Now onto the stories themselves; if you're a die hard obsessed ASOIAF fan like myself then you definitely want to read this. It goes back 100 years before ASOIAF picks up. It answered a lot of questions for me and satisfied my cravings for grrm and adventure!

  • More of R.R. Martin's sweet sweet world

If you're waiting anxiously for Winds of Winter to release why not fill your time with these lovely short stories. I found myself more attached to Dunk and Egg than perhaps more of the main characters in ASOIF. It keeps your toes in the same world and gives hommage to the series while still being new material. Well worth the used price and a great way to waste away some winter days.

  • One of Martin's Best

Very strong story with memorable characters. Absolutely top drawer illustrations add significantly to the experience. I first read a friend's copy, then went out and bought a hard bound copy of my own. Like 'Treasure Island' this is a standout book you want to share.

  • Super read!

Book is an account of the early days when the Targaryens ruled and an insight of Sir Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. To get to understand the lands of Westeros & Essos, starts here in this book. These characters will be best understood for who they were in future before Game of Thrones. Recommended for all GØT fans

  • A pleasure to read............

Excellent precurser to the other Game of Thrones books. A bit about what life was like and the adventuring of two likeminded souls.

  • Something to read before next novel.

Martin has put three graphic novels into one book. Great read from one of the best writers of this century.

  • A knight of the seven kingdoms

An excellent prequel. I'm a huge fan of all the books in the series. I'm patiently waiting for the next novel in the series. No rush Mr Martin!

  • Thank you

Love the GOT series, so thought I’d read another George RR Martin book. Was not disappointed. Very pleased with purchase!

  • Great book nice illustrations

This work is not quite “game of thrones” but very enjoyable in its own right. I am an avid fan of Martins and enjoyed this jaunt through his fire and ice history.

  • Seven Kingdoms

A good book for two very enjoyable nights of distraction. Nothing to do with the Game of Thrones books except the setting in an earlier Seven Kingdoms with some earlier Targaryons.
