  • Getting back at friend and foe

Gore Vidal made many enemies, and it's unclear how well even his friends liked him. But he was a gifted writer, also a keen observer of all that went on around him, not to mention all that was going on inside him. This memoir treats us to endless sly, sardonic, self-centered accounts of Vidal's experiences with other famous people, friends and foes. The overall mood is acerbic, and if that doesn't try your patience too badly, you'll find the book hard to put down, as I did.
