Mockingbird and this book are of a piece originally. It is a shame that Lee was persuaded to draw out Mockingbird separately, as it appeared to give a very different picture of Atticus Finch - hero of liberals everywhere, than is ultimately revealed in Watchman. However, for all that it is a far more nuanced, typically realistic portrayal of a man of his time. If only the two had been retained as one book - what a bigger meisterwerk it would have been even than Mockingbird alone.
