James Sprunt Historical Monograph: The Provincial Council and Committees of Safety in North Carolina (Classic Reprint) by Bessie Lewis Whitaker (Paperback / softback, 2015)
Excerpt from James Sprunt Historical Mograph: The Provincial Council and Committees of Safety in North Carolina The following study was undertaken by the author at the suggestion of the department of History as a thesis for the degree of Master of Arts. The subject, important as were the organizations whose activities are herein so fully described, has t hitherto received a full and proper treatment, and it is hoped that this mograph will assist in showing how great a responsibility rested upon the committees of safety and also how well that responsibility was assumed. The main source relied on in the preparation of the study was the Colonial Records of North Carolina. Reference to them is so frequent that it has seemed only necessary to refer to them by the numeral indicating the volume. The work of Dr. E. W. Sikes, entitled North Carolina - Colony to Commonwealth, has also been largely used. The author wishes to express her grateful appreciation of assistance rendered her in the preparation of this paper. The editor also wishes to express his grateful ackwledgements to his colleague, Dr. Louis R. Wilson, for assistance in the reading of the proof.
