Judith Herman, author ofTrauma and Recovery. The effects of trauma can be devastating for sufferers, their families and future generations. An incredible book on trauma (William Leith, 'Books of the Year'Evening Standard ).
What causes people to continually relive what they most want to forget, and what treatments could help restore them to a life with purpose and joy? Here, Dr Bessel van der Kolk offers a new paradigm for effectively treating traumatic stress. Neither talking r drug therapies have proven entirely satisfactory. With stories of his own work and those of specialists around the globe, The Body Keeps the Score sheds new light on the routes away from trauma - which lie in the regulation and syncing of body and mind, using sport, drama, yoga, mindfulness, meditation and other routes to equilibrium.
This book is so easy to read and hard to put down. The science is explained in a way that is accessible to all. The stories illustrate well the points Bessel is putting across. If u have trauma for any reason or work with people who have then this book is a must. It is very enlightening and validating. It will stay on my bookshelf. I have underlined relevant parts, post it noted etc etc. Very happy I found it.
Bessel van der kolk is an expert in the field of biopsychosocial neuroscience and psychology . The book with it's anecdotes and data is worth every minute of my attention
