Initially, I was very impressed with this amplifier, it produced a large detailed sound when compared to previous Marantz amps. Unfortunately, after several months I found the sound was a bit too big in the bass, at times it seemed to be dragging or slowing down pieces of music, the bass at times was too thick and not as lean as I would normally like. Two tracks that suffered most were Mr Big - Free Live - Free and The real me - Quadrophenia - The Who. Everything else about this amp is great, good flexibility of inputs, the styling just be careful with partnering speakers.

I have owned many amps over the years. I also own a very good pair of ruark speakers to test this amp as well. I had the opportunity to try this amp and a £500 what hifi product of the year Denon av amp. This marantz pm6005 amp knocked spots of the denon in every area, a real surprise. It is superb through the digital inputs, I can even get good results through a sky hd box”s optical out. I use the coaxial input through an old but good CD player. It has good rhythm, detail and front and back soundstage. I agree with one reviewer about the bass, it is good quality, definition but is can be on the thick side. I’m hoping to sort this out with cabling. Overall a terrific amp and I have had many, a real surprise Would recommend without hesitation

My good chum wanted to use a Multi Region Blu Ray player by playing it through his tried and trusted somewhat elderly Marantz Hi-Fi amplifier. However, since Sony Blu Ray players seem to have rid themselves of phono outputs and only seem to include HDMI and Coax outputs, it was nigh on impossible to find a way to use the player with the phono inputs on the Marantz. Thus, the first class Marantz PM-6005 seemed the logical answer it including both a Coax and Optical input. It works brilliantly for the purposes that my friend required and kicks posterior in terms of sound. The cost of the amp belies the superb sound that it presents and if, like my pal, you do not wish to dabble in the world of the 'Home Cinema AV' amp then this will certainly tick your boxes.

Really pleased with this amp. It was very reasonably priced paired with a Sony Blu Ray DVD/CD player thro' a pair of diminutive ATC scm 7 speakers it sounds superb.

Delighted with the sound, its spacious with great imagery, music just bounds along with energy and fizz. Has a slight warmth that suits my taste. I can't detect any harshness untill you push it beyond its limits. I listen to heavy metal and classic rock and it goes plenty loud enough for me.

This Amp has a lot of presence and is a notably better performer playing cassettes than my previous ageing Marantz.
