For people like myself who grew up in the 70s and 80s, VHS, VHS-C, and 8mm "camcorders" were a game-changer. Today, they are largely forgotten as a class of cameras or video cameras because everyone is running around recording on their cell phones. But for long-format recording (30+ minutes), they still have their place. This Sony FDR-AX33 is an excellent 4k camcorder, and I purchased mine for depositions that run 4+ hours. The sound and image quality is excellent, it's easy to use, very lightweight and portable, and the handy package Focus Camera has here with a case, tripod, and memory card features everything you need to get up and running.

As far as image is concerned, these handy-cams have a certain look and quality to them. It won’t be as sharp or clean as a more pro camcorder or DSLR, but thats ok. It’s a style choice and exactly why I bought it. The texture of the video can come across as more “real” or intimate than footage produced by most new cameras now. Even though the technology has gotten better the footage still screams nostalgia. Its the perfect camera in my opinion for documentary work. Im not suggesting it as a main camera, but a 2nd or 3rd camera that captures (discretely) all the small moments that would pass by as you dig up your expensive gear camera. This camera is always ready. Touchscreen, fully automatic, light weight and it starts up when I pop the screen open. It’s kinda incredible. Before the FDR-AX33 I was using a 1080 version. This is definitely an upgrade. Very useful camera to have. And if you’re an actual dad/parent you won’t be disappointed. Read full review

I was in the market for a new camera. I'm a rising film student and need to use a camera for all of my movies and videos I do. out of all of the cameras, i found this one has the best quality as well as right on the border of my price range. the camera shipped within the week and in perfect condition. my only thing about buying the open box is that I need to print out the owners manual ( mine did not come with one). I would have to say the only thing that you need to worry about is your SD card. in order to use the camera at its best, you would need to get an SD card that can proses AT LEAST 100MB/SEC, in addition, it will need to be a minimum of 64GB card. I purchased a card shortly after with 128GB with 150MB/SEC. it works beautifully and you can see the difference.

This is a really great camera if you are looking for that extra bit of resolution that is 4K. Very easy to use. If you are trying to do a custom White Balance, that takes a little effort because the camera is sooooo automated, but other than that it is terrific!

Good quality stabilized video but internal mics and accessory Sony GZ1M AIS hotshoe mic have audio hiss, so best to record double system sync sound with an external XLR mic like a Sennheiser MKE600 on a boom pole directly into a Tascam or Zoom digital audio recorder (I use Tascam DR-40), then auto sync the tracks in FCPX or Premiere Pro edit software for clean audio. See You Tube videos to learn how.

Easy t used, however I wish it had a visual display in reference to the recording status, How much of the media card has been used when recording, otherwise very good camera, I am a professional videographer and this was a way for me to enter the 4K market

I absolutely adore this camera. The image is great, sound is good, but with a little external mic gets really good, and the camera is tiny so it glides well on a glidecam. Autofocus works well and the stabilizer is amazing. I do wish the manual control was not limited to one function at a time, but I usually leave it on exposure and let the camera do the rest.

Good image quality, face focus tracking, auto settings, BOSS lens stabilization and manual audio controls, but no built in ND filters nor completely separate controls over shutter speed, iris, and ISO gain. Adjust 2 and the third changes automatically to adjust. Otherwise, I own 4 of these for good multicam shoots using audio track sync in FCPX. I couldn't afford to do it any other way with more expensive camcorders.

Great camera. Looks hard to use at first, but it is just scary cause it is expensive for a country ,old man like me. I still haven't got a 128mb/s card for it. They are hard to find at the regular online deals. I can find lots of 90 mb//s ones, it takes great pictures, but you need the 128 mb/s to get MP4 pictures. I can go to Sony to get one, but you know how Sony, and the makers are, RIP YOU OFF PEOPLE. Thanks SONY....ddd

Great little camcorder, larger that the tiny ones, but not too heavy for me to shoot hand held with. The image stabilization is the best yet, far superior to the other brands. I bought the newer model, but the auto focus has a lot of problems. The auto focus works great on this model. You can't beat this camcorder for the money.
