A collection of short stories and novellas that make you think about life in ways I never expected. Really diverse premises and conclusions. It includes the "Stories of Your Life" upon which Arrival is based and the movie is very true to the themes and perspectives of the story you can read here. This book is somewhat disappointing. The stories are not written with the same level of creativity, surprise, and depth as the more recent compilation of stories in Exhalation. Good Reading
Ted Chaing is one of the crop of relatively newer writers whose style is tinged with Ray Bradbury's palette of colors in which bizarre phenomena is prosaic. Stories of Your Life is full of these types of stories. "Hell is the Absence of God" is one of these stories in which angels routinely visit the earth. Their arrival ripples through the environment with destructive force.
