A poorly produced DVD of a very good story
I have been a Jack Irish fan for years. I discovered Peter Temple's writing many years ago and regularly re-read the books and watch the JI movies. I eagerly anticipated this series and bought the DVD as soon as it was available. My advice is not to watch the DVD episode by episode. The way the series has been edited for the DVD leaves out large slabs of the story - unfortunately the most vital slabs. Each episode ends with a cliff-hanger, and the next episode leaves out all of the linking story, making the whole series incomprehensible. The script is good. It links several plot-lines (mostly from "White Dog") with additional material which has been woven into the story to produce a mini-series and nonetheless remains true to Peter Temple's concepts. It is, of course, excellently produced and directed, and the cast is, as always, absolutely spot on. If you buy this DVD don't think you will get a coherent story by watching episode by episode. It's not gonna happen! Play each of the DVDs as a movie and you will get the right story. And a damn good one it is.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

bloody brilliant!
As another viewer had recommended, you need to clear your schedule, get a whole bunch of snacks and treats and watch this like an epic movie! A great cast and a wonderfully convoluted story make this riveting and entertaining - Claudia Karvan is still beautiful and the only sore point was losing the original "Charlie " - but the new actor is a treat :) Can't wait for the next season!!!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
