Author Biography
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Robert F. Moore is the son of Glenn D. Moore Jr. and Dorothy Messenger Moore. Robert's great-grandfather W. S. Moore came to Hawthorne, Florida from Tennessee circa 1880. At that time the name of the town was changed from Jamestown to Hawthorne. Robert is a fourth generation Moore of Hawthorne. His father became an architect and built his home in Jacksonville, Florida, where Robert was born in 1945. On numerous occasions Robert traveled from Jacksonville to Hawthorne for visits and overnight stays with the Moore family. He has many fond memories of the wondrous Magnesia Springs. Robert earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University in 1967 and a Master of Science in Psychology from Auburn University in 1970. He served in the U. S. Army Reserve as a Neuropsychiatric Specialist from 1968 to 1974. He was employed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Human Services Program Director by the State of Florida for thirty-five years. During this time, Robert raised two children, Jenny and John Moore. Robert retired to Jacksonville in 2005, the same year he married Patricia Teller Moore. Robert and Pat moved to Gainesville in 2013 and are active members of the Hawthorne Area Historical Society and Alachua County Historical Commission.
