    EHX Key 9

It is a decent effect pedal, but you need to be aware that like any other pedal, you need to learn how to use it and find the right settings that fit your necessities, also I don't give it 5 stars because in the background you can still hear the Guitar strings,it is definitely nice to have it,but it won't ever replace your Rhodes or dynamo pianos, anyway you can always surprise your fellow musicians when comping some Jazz standards

Electro-Harmonix KEY9 Electric Piano Machine Pedal

this is an awful pedal trying to get the sounds similar to those of demo's was nigh on impossible, I finally did dial in some usable sounds on 3 of the 9 settings, when I used it in a band situation they were awful the people I bought it from ( The Mad Ape) kindly allowed me to exchange it for a C9 pedal, which is wonderful and I have many suitable sounds , that are easy to dial in

  • Adds color to a handful of songs

I use this live to go beyond use of chorus or other effects. The keyboard sounds are absolutely legit but I mostly blend to a unique coloring of the guitar sound. There are levels for both the effects and the raw guitar sound, so easy to blend in the spot. Quality is too notch, which is nice as I don't always get the impression that's the case for most EH pedals. This is high end.

  • used pedal

I have only used this pedal with a small amplifier. They say you need a certain amount of volume to really get the sound it produces. I could get an OK organ sound and and OK electric piano. The mallets were good but the rest of the sounds were kind of weak on a small amp---this pedal would be good in a bind but a real synthesizer is much better.

  • Fun and Funky

An awesome pedal, multi-faceted, with a ton of options to either double up your guitar sound with keys, or take out the guitar altogether and rip like a keyboard player. Sounds great straight from the box, using the recommended settings, but by spending a little time and experimentation with this unit in collaboration with other effects, you can dial up some amazing sounds. I use a compression pedal just before this unit, just to take some of the swell and varied attack out of my normal guitar playing, and to make the overall attack more even (as with real keys) and it can be incredibly convincing. Not sure how these guys keep pumping out some of these more 'out there' pedals (also check out the B9 and C9 pedals), but I for one, am very glad that they do.

  • Sounds like my Rhodes !

It's doing what it said it would do. In order to make at sound like a keyboard it is a must to have a good strong, clean, not overdriven input. Guitar on ten for best tracking. I had to change my "guitar" way of playing to even make it sound or track right. This is a must.........as I was going to send it back at first. Clean picking, NO bends, stuff like that. Good Luck. This thing costs too much, So yeah, not a paid for review.

  • KEY9 is great!

I got this for my 19yr old guitar phenom son so he could add some kybd sounds to his arsenal of pedals. The organ iis really nice blended with his strat -- produces a shimmer effect. Rhodes and Wurly sound good as well. Seems to track well enough. I'm a kybd player with way too many kybds and modules, so I have things that do a better job of making each of the sounds. But it works well as a thickener. It doesn't track fast enough for a pro, but you can't beat the portability, ease of operation and build quality for the price. p.s. I also recently got a MEL9 for mellotron sounds and that is even more fun. You can do Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, Moody Blyes, Beatles, King Crimson sounds from the past. Just remember not to do any bends - they sound weird and bad. But it's cool for the strings and choirs. The flutes are good too (ala Stairway to Heaven). Clarinet is kind of a joke but you could use it in 21sr Century Schitzoid Man. The sax is suprisingly up there with my modules and vsts, as long as you don't hit notes too hard. It is crazy fun to add to a guitar or kybd (I put a volume pedal after it to bring it

  • Tricky Little Pedal

Takes patience and trial and error to accomplish desired sounds...would be great if there was a grand in the programs, but sadly lacking. Tracks well with no lag. Improvements needed but a decent pedal overall.

  • Very cool Pedal

I really like this pedal and I got it here for a good deal. This is especially good for guitar players who write and record their own songs — you can get away without a keyboard player and still have those tones and flavors.

  • Loved it when it worked

Pedal was great but died after a month and that’s just casually use in-home. Only ran it with ehx power adapter but now the led lights up but no sound comes through and I’ve done everything except take the circuit board apart and still no luck. Probably just a dud; all the other ehx gear I’ve had has been great
