Perfect remote
We ordered one of these a few months ago for my grandmother, who had begun to call us every day to "fix" her tv for her. She was having a lot of trouble understanding how to turn on and off both the satellite system and the television, and was confused about all the buttons on the two remotes. Sometimes she would accidentally press a button and would not know how to get it back to her programs. This remote was a life saver for all of us. It programed in minutes to both her tv and satellite. Now when she presses Power, both turn on/off. She loves how simple it is. Only one remote, and very large buttons that she can see. The remote controls only the essentials: power, mute, channel, volume. Is is easy to understand and large enough that she cannot easily misplace it. I ordered a second just recently for my other grandmother who broke her hip and must stay in a nursing home for therapy. Programed it to her tv for her, but she seemed a little apprehensive about using it. But the next day she called me and told me that she had been moved to another room, and asked me to please come and program the remote again, because she couldn't see the buttons on the one they had given her. She had learned to use it without any trouble once I had left her alone with it and now loves it. This remote is perfect for elderly folks who would like larger buttons and just the essential elements. But it is also great for people with children, or anyone who would just like to simplify things a bit. It won't control some of the fine-tuning features, but if all you need is to flip through channels and turn up the volume, this will help you a lot. We love it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Nice overall design but did not work with TWC/Spectrum cable box.
The remote design is well suited for seniors or others who have difficulty with many small buttons. Unfortunately, this remote did not pair with a TWC/Spectrum cable box which made it useless for our needs. Note that many cable boxes, satellite boxes, and streaming devices now use radio frequency (RF). If your remote does not have a small red bulb in the front of it that lights up, this device will not likely pair with it 🙁. So easy to use and works perfectly!
I bought this for my 87 year old mom who has macular degeneration. It is large enough to be easy to find. The buttons are large and so simple it was easy for her to learn to use. great unit - can I return it?
I bought this unit for an elderly resident where I live. She likes the big buttons and the bright-enough lights, but she can't read the small Comcast channel numbers on her TV screen. This Tek Pal TPL-1240G doesn't have any number buttons on it, so she has no way of knowing what channel she is on after she has pressed the channel up/down buttons. Best remote ever.
Keep in mind that this won't work with cable boxes, etc. Our Mom is in a nursing facility and we hooked an antenna to her tv. This remote is perfect for her. Other remotes only frustrate her because there are too many buttons and she can't see well. This one has on/off/mute and channel up/down and volume up/down. This item was purchased for a physically challenged senior, who often would accidently press the wrong button on even the largest of tv remotes thus "resetting" sometimes functions that caused untenable situations. As this is simple, large enough and LITE it eliminates all the complex problems. Great Idea! Poor Development.
My mother is 94 and my mother-in-law is 93. Both are in assisted living and neither are able to "understand" the difference between the cable TV box and the TV. In one case, the tuning is done with the Cable Box and in the other case it is done with the TV. I was unable to get the remote to program to any of the cable boxes, so we're still stuck with two remotes (TV and Cable). It's a terrific remote for the TV, just doesn't change channels at all.
