I am not an athlete, but I do like hanging to loosen up my back, neck and shoulders.
Strength is a goal, but the muscular stimulation from hanging with a good top bar grip (even while standing on the center cross bar, with a good overhead grip) reminds my skeletal muscles what good posture feels like. While semi-standing on the upper cross bar, I hang with my weight to loosen up my ankles and work on the soles of my feet, I flex and point as well as roll my feet toe to heel and back so that the point of gravity on the crossbar slides back and forth across the planter fascia, stimulating balance nerves and circulation. I love it it and am so glad I have made this purchase.
