Tool shaped scrap metal
I spent an enormous amount of time making this plane into a functional tool. The sole was the worst I have ever seen. Inaccurate by 0.7 of a mm. The casting where the blade sits was so badly done only half of the blade protruded from the mouth. I am incredibly stubborn so once I was done sulking I spent hours and hours lapping the sole then I needle filed the blade seating flat. Record planes are pathetic and I will not be buying another ever. They deserve to go bust. There are a number of better options, Quangsheng, Axminster etc. The only good thing about this plane was the price. Congratulations to record for taking what is a completely undeserved reputation and putting the final nails in the coffin of tool shaped scrap metal. A one armed blind moron could have made a better plane.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Needs Fetteling
As is the case for all planes in this price range the tool requires considerable fetteling before it is ready for use. Out of the package it will destroy any but the roughest construction and will fight you like crazy the whole time. The sole needs to be flattened as does the back of the cutting iron. The sliding parts need to smoothed. The edges of the plane need to be eased so as not to cut your hand or mar the work. The blade needs to be sharpened to a razor edge. Once all this is done the plane is much easier to adjust and use and will leave a finished surface ready for paint, stain or varnish. Please Note: The plane does not have a lateral adjustment for the iron which must be done by tapping the blade or loosening the cap iron and moving the blade into position with your fingers.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

good for the money
Bought this to replace an old record block plane that had given up on inspection it needed approx 30 minutes to polish the back and another 30 mins to hone but is now razor sharp I only bought it for ruff work so I'm not complaining you get what you pay for and a Lie Nielsen or Quansheng it aint if you want a plane to use straight out of the box you'll have to pay a premium and buy one of the above so be prepared for some work to get it up to scratchVerified purchase: YesCondition: New
