  • Fantastic SAS Expander for TrueNAS!

I bought this for use in my new Silverstone 20-bay hot swap NAS (w/ 5x backplanes). I also have an SSD which houses my music with the option to add another for mirrored redundancy. So the 24 port SAS expander was the perfect size. This particular Intel is plug and play with TrueNAS, so you can rest assured of that. Pair it with an LSI HBA (also plug and play with TrueNAS depending on the model), buy appropriate cables, then you're all set. I ran the 20 HDDs into the Intel and then the last port out to the HBA. The SSD uses an SFF-8087 to SATA (x4) cable and it plugs directly into the 2nd port of the HBA. Giving me 21 total drives with the two cards. I could not be happier with the quality of the Intel and how easy it was to install. Migrated my array from an external drive tower with it's own built in SAS expander and was such a breeze. I didn't bother to export the pool or anything. Just installed a new MB, CPU, old RAM, 10g SFP+ NIC and the two cards mentioned above - and obviously all HDDs/SSD. Went into bios after posting to add compatibility mode and TrueNAS not only booted but it was like I never shut it off. Everything was just plug and play. Not used to that being a Windows guy my whole life. Highly recommended!

  • Works as advertised. Can't ask for much more than that.

The Intel RES2SV2409 does exactly what it says out of the box with no extra work required on your part to set it up. Simply connect it to your RAID card then connect your drives. The RAID card will still recognize the previously established arrays and you'll be back up and running.

  • Good product for the right price.

It is impossible to name absolutely new. At least there is no factory packaging in antistatic design. Therefore, when traveling, the sensitive element base can be damaged. My instance is working. It's too early to talk about reliability. In general, the product meets the price, but I would like antistatic packaging.
