  • keeping an old bike on the road

After replacing worn out grip shifts (20 y.o.) with sram mrx shifters i got a different wheelset with 8sp freehub. On this i put a 12-26 8sp sram cassette intending to just use 7 gears with the existing shimano rd for the time being. I was thinking about trigger shifters when i picked up an 8sp sram 3.0 comp gripshift. The big glitch was forgetting to check if the shimano rd was compatible with the comp shifter. NO, and props to the old shimano rd which spun into a knot, but didn't break. That's where the sram x.3 rd comes into play. Out of the box it looks sort of cheesy, but i think that was because it was so clean. It was so easy to install and set up. The cable adjustment is at the shifter, not derailleur, so you can ride and fine tune at the same time. And, less cable is needed vs Shimano so I didn't have to get a new cable/housing. Bonus. Bottom line it shifts flawlessly and that's what it is there for.

  • x4 replacement

i tried a sram x4 on my 7 speed hub. i set the high speed screw, but when i set the low speed screw the derailleur would not return to the high speed stop. it would hang up on a false stop. i checked the derailleur mount with a straight edge and it is square. i put the x3 on with zero difficulties. not as nice as the x4 but it works well.

  • Rock solid shifting

This is a SRAM! By far the best 3x7 speed shifter for an upgrade over older Shimano components, SRAM RULES!

  • Quality is good for the price

Part is easy to assemble. Quality is ok, but the price is low. Perhaps having all metal part would improve much without compromising much the price. Thanks

  • Solidly built and low cost.

One well built low cost derailleur. If you don't need the most light weight and high tech but you want sturdy and reliable I would buy this.

  • SRAM 3x8 Rear Derailleur

Good price for the product. It's not a high end product, however, it's great for for your everyday low end bicycles, such as RoadMaster, Schwinn, Mongoose and Magna.

  • Like sram quality

Worked good bought a few of these now to replace the old Shimano derailleurs on my older bikes. Have to replace the shifter as well as these are one to one ratio.

  • excellent value

the 45 tooth chain-wrap capacity on this unit accommodates the large gear-spread on modern MT. bikes but it also fits the older 7 speed cassettes without maxing out limit screws like you would with a derailleur meant for cassettes with 9 or more cogs. There's some composite parts, and the cogs are riveted in, but for 20 bucks there is nothing to complain about. If you trash it or bash it is cheap to replace. Highly recommended for kids bikes or commuter bikess you might park in a public bike rack.

  • 7 speed SRAM derailleur

Functions as advertised. If you need a derailleur for your SRAM shifter, this is a good option.
