I have launched rigs with 3 to 5 ounce sinkers and this reel performs very well. When I fish the river for stripers, it is usually with 2 poles. One pole is a spinning rod, the other is a casting rod, fitted with this reel. I added the larger weights, for the centrifugal overspin control. There is also the spool tension adjustment, like on any standard conventional casting reel, too. I spooled the reel with about 240 yards of 17 lbs mono. Also, this is a non-level wind reel. Seriously, there are no issues when using your thumb or forefinger to guide line back onto the reel during a retrieve. The smaller size of this reel works great from my kayak too.

The Daiwa Sealine SL-X20SHA is a great reel. I use it in the surf on a 10' Breakaway Omega surf rod. The reel casts well with the brake controls on and adjusted. The drag on this reel is controlled by a star lever mounted next to then handle. It also has a very loud bait alarm. The free-spool function works great. Its not hard to cast this setup over 100 yards. The reel has been a solid investment in my tackle choice. Zero issues. I own 2 of them and would not hesitate to buy another.
