  • Left field and fascinating

As something of a Christmas history fan, I was interested to know from which angle this recommended little gem was written, as there have been so many others containing hugely conflicting origin theories. The result is: honesty. The answers to so many questions have been lost in the annals of time and the author takes the refreshingly genuine approach of telling you why it isnt possible to answer, but especially how he has done the hard work for you and why you shouldn't really bother investigating further and could easily spend your life doing something more useful (even though he gives you the means to follow up as much as you like). I found the approach delightfully left field and not at all cynical - more a reality check from someone who is clearly as interested in the subject as I am. What is researchable appears to have been done thoroughly, and what is myth seems to have been exposed as such, regardless of how that may break a cosy notion of tradition. Witty, healthily irreverent and charming in it's obvious love for the season, this is an excellent, if not too time-consuming, read for anyone interested in the whats and the whys, but not necessarily the hows of what is still a huge modern day story.

  • A great deal

The book is excellent quality, just like new. It was a third of the price of the new version we had seen. What’s not to like
