I found it to be slow and difficult to use. Most of the time the nut was just crushed into the shell, I used it as directed with the white dot on the macadamia at the top but it still was super hard to crack initially, and then only very rarely cracked a nut that was easy to remove from the broken shell, I had to use a butter knife most of the time to pick bits out. The actual quality of the product wasn't terrible, but it was still very inefficient. Maybe my expectations were too high?

So here’s the thing, you have to find the white dot on the nut, fit it into the cup with the dot up, hold it while you screw the pointy top down to meet the dot. You turn it HARD until it won’t turn anymore, if that doesn’t work, you have to unscrew, reposition, try again, then throw it away and try another nut. I had a 1 in 10 success rate, the other 9 I was supposed to throw away. Instead I threw this device away, and bought the lever action type at 4x the cost. They open every nut and in about 1/10th the time, without any effort. Life’s too short to waste it on poor design.

I would have thought for this money it would be possible to get a macadamia cracker that is much easier to crack macadamias. It's fiddly and takes a lot of grip effort, even for a large male. The screw handle could've been longer and provided more leverage. It does however, provide a good party activity.

The design is simple and relatively effective, however, I found it difficult to create enough pressure to crack a macadamia nut by turning the wings (koala ears). Effectively you only using thumb pressure to crank the drive so it is quite physically demanding and 3-4 nuts at a time is a challenge even though I have strong working hands, my wife struggled to use it.

This is not a brute force nut cracker that cracks your macadamia nuts any which way, but saying that once you follow the instructions it works quite effectively. Make sure you line up the point of the plunger screw with the seam of the nut and it works a treat.
