Excerpt from The Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 35: March 15, 1900 The chapel of Edward the Confessor is at the east end of the choir, and contains the shrine of that saint: that it was an exquisite piece of workmanship, is evident even in its decay. Here also is the coronation chair, under which is placed the celebrated stone brought from Scone, in Scotland, by Edward I in 1297, on which the Scottish kings were crowned. The second coronation chair was first used by Mary, queen of William III. A ight of steps close by leads to a collection of wax work figures, eleven in number. They comprise Queen Elizabeth, Charles II, the duke of Buckingham lying in state, his widow the duchess, and her little son; the duchess of Richmond, William and Mary, Queen Anne, Nelson and the earl of Chatham.
