About this product

Product Information

Fred (Michael Caine) and Mick (Harvey Keitel), two old friends, are on vacation in an elegant hotel at the foot of the Alps. Fred, a composer and conductor, is now retired. Mick, a film director, is still working. They look with curiosity and tenderness on their childrens confused lives, Micks enthusiastic young writers, and the other hotel guests. While Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film, Fred has no intention of resuming his musical career. But someone wants at all costs to hear him conduct again.

  • Youth, really about aged. So good.

Delightful, you must read the comments at the end to fully realise why this was filmed. Written for the BFI London Film Festival of course it has to be quirky.

  • For lovers of great cinema

A strong film not obvious where it was going initially so it drew me in. It was sombre in tone and thought provoking. Beautifully filmed and a stupendous cast from the leads to the most minor roles.

  • Youth - not for the young

An interesting movie; has more of an arthouse feel than a mainstream style. The story time-weaves in and out and around the lives of the Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel characters, with specific focus on Caine. The characters share their thought processes, correlative life experiences and eventual outcomes of their life choices. It is a wonderfully acted meander through life's memories and a nicely crafted depiction of the interaction and interplay we have in people's lives. I'll be watching again; I think there will be more to see in the second viewing.
